The Great Football Giveaway (UK reg. 1113148) is young and dynamic - two words that are not often associated with charities.
We don't have any paid staff or rented offices and rely 100% on volunteers organising and running projects.
Any funds given to us via people donating balls from this website goes directly into buying balls, pumps, valves, transport costs and other costs directly associated with the projects. As soon as we've collected enough to fill one container, donations go towards more footballs for future projects. Simple.
We started this project a few years ago and want it to grow and grow. We’re not some oversized corporate charity. Nor are we a PR vehicle for brands that could & should be doing so much more. We just love sport, in particular football, enough to see the opportunity to use it as a force for good.
Malawi, Angola and Uganda are just the start. Over time, with the support of football fans and players, we want to extend our reach into more countries across Africa, South America and Asia. We want to go to more areas suffering poverty, more refugee camps and where appropriate more areas of civil conflict – wherever kids are denied the chance to kick a ball about and enjoy their childhood, we’ll go.
And we want you to be a part of it. The great thing about The Great Football Giveaway is that anyone can do it. You don’t have to be a doctor, engineer, ‘celebrity’ or politician. Most of the team that went to Uganda had never even been to Africa before. All you have to do is love sport & football enough to want to do something positive with it.
We especially want companies & brands that have profited from the growth of football over the years to get behind us and give something back to the beautiful game. Not because of some charity quid pro quo about what you can get out of it, but because you believe it's the good and right thing to do.
We only exist because people who love sport and football give us balls to give away. If you’re interested in joining the team, whether it’s to help distributing footballs as a volunteer, or help us getting others to give balls, then please email us.
