MALAWI 2012/13 Target: 6,250 balls |
|
It's been brilliant to be back in Malawi this year and we have another team of volunteers planning to head back there in Oct/Nov 2013. Malawi was the very first country where we ran a project back in 2006, and it holds a pretty special place in our heart. We felt at the time that we were only scratching the surface, so it's been great to go back with another container full of over 7,000 more footballs and netballs to give away. The last team we had in Malawi, run by Katherine, Sarah and Thibault, returned last month having hand delivered over 2,000 balls to children living in the central and Eastern areas. Before that we had teams up in the remote northern areas led by Duncan. Malawi still suffers some of the worst poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. They have one of the highest HIV rates in the world and anything we can do to help make a difference, we will.
